Painted faral thali
A plate of Diwali faral in the look of a gouache painting on warm white paper, seen from above: three spiral chaklis, two crimped karanjis, three round yellow ladoos and a heap of diamond-cut shankarpali on a plate with a maroon rim. Small sprigs of bright flowers sit in the four corners. It is made for a faral get-together, with family and friends coming over for snacks, tea and a long chat.

Making it yours
Your invitation goes on the paper under the plate, roughly half the card's height, and finishes before the flowers at the bottom, leaving room for the host line, the date, the venue and a message of two or three lines. Maroon picks up the rim of the plate, Leaf green the sprigs, and Dark brown the fried chakli. The Elegant style is the starting font, with no header symbol; Ganesh or a Diya can be added in the editor, and a family photo in a round frame over the title.
About the craft: Faral thali
Faral is the Marathi word for the snacks and sweets made at home in the days before Diwali: spiral chakli, crescent karanji with a sweet filling, round ladoos and diamond-cut shankarpali. On the festival mornings a plate of faral is set before every visitor, and plates go back and forth between neighbours, each family proud of its own recipes. This design paints such a plate seen from above, with all four favourites arranged on it.
