Making it yours
Inside the border the ivory field is clear for a little more than half the card's height, enough for the puja time, your address and a few lines of invitation. The text can be Maroon, Kumkum red or Leaf green, three colours taken from the painting. The Shree Lakshmi line heads the card by default, written in Gujarati script on Gujarati cards.
About the craft: Madhubani
Madhubani, or Mithila, painting comes from the Mithila region of Bihar, where women traditionally painted the walls and floors of their homes for weddings and festivals. Its look is easy to recognise: bold double outlines, fine hatching, flat colour and every space filled with lotuses, fish, birds and vines. This design borrows that style for Lakshmi Puja, with a lotus border and a kalash on ivory paper.
